One Piece Manga 1183 Review

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ 9/10

A Soulful Reveal & Titanic Clashes! Brook's Origins Finally Unveiled! πŸ’€πŸŽ»πŸ”₯

🐘 The Cover & The Brawls ⚔️

The color spread of the Straw Hats chilling with elephants is classic Oda vibrant, fun, and a nice breather before the chaos of the chapter.

Right out of the gate, we get Sanji arriving at the Giant Village. Seeing him instantly throw down with Zaza MMA is pure hype! 🦡πŸ’₯ Sanji's fighting style against a literal giant using Mixed Martial Arts is going to be an incredible choreography showcase.

Meanwhile, the clash of the titans continues: Loki/Ragnir vs. Imu. 🀯 The scale of this fight is already legendary, but it's Imu’s dialogue that steals the show. Imu stating that Nika and Nidhogg will die "just like Dozan" is an absolutely massive lore drop.

πŸ’€ The Soul King's Past: A Face to the Bones!

The transition to the flashback is handled beautifully. Usopp asking Brook about his sudden fight with Gunko serves as the perfect catalyst for Brook to look back at his life. And wow... WE FINALLY SEE BROOK'S REAL EYES! πŸ‘€✨

Seeing a 20-year-old Brook without his signature shades and without the infamous head scar is surreal. It humanizes him in a way we haven't felt since the Thriller Bark Rumbar Pirates flashback.

We are introduced to the Esperia Kingdom, featuring a 7-year-old Princess Shuri and the badass Queen Candel. Learning that Brook was the leader of the battle convoy and took down a whole syndicate to protect the Queen adds so much depth to his character. He wasn't just a musician who picked up a sword; he was an elite royal guard and a celebrated hero long before his pirate days! πŸ€ΊπŸ›‘️

🧐 Deep Dive Analysis & Theories

  • Who is Dozan (ドウアン)? Imu dropping this name alongside Nika (Sun God) and Nidhogg (the mythological Norse dragon, perfectly fitting Elbaf lore) implies Dozan was a figure of equal, god-like or historical magnitude. Could Dozan be the original Joyboy's true name? Or perhaps a previous ruler of the Giants who defied the World Government during the Void Century? The fact that Imu says they will die "just like Dozan" confirms this entity was a major threat that Imu personally saw defeated.

  • The Esperia Kingdom Dynamics: Queen Candel being the former leader of the defense convoy and more famous than Brook gives us major warrior-queen vibes. It makes you wonder what happened to Esperia. Did the World Government destroy it? Is that why Brook eventually fled to the sea and joined the Rumbar Pirates?

  • The "Gunko" Connection: Usopp's question about Gunko triggers this specific memory. Gunko must either be connected to that old gangster syndicate Brook defeated, or they use a fighting style similar to the enemies of the Esperia Kingdom.

🎬 Final Verdict

"Good Day Mermaid" is an absolute treat. We get top-tier Sanji action, Void Century breadcrumbs from Imu, and the long-awaited unmasking of Brook's human past. The world-building around Esperia Kingdom feels incredibly fresh.

And the best part? NO BREAK NEXT WEEK! πŸ™ Let's go! ⛵🌊

Who is Dozan? My guess would be someone close to Imu, not his enemy.

Dozan might be someone close to Imu who died, maybe because of Joyboy. And that would trigger the change in Imu in the past to make him evil. This is a shonen, there is Vegapunk not being sure if there was any evil sides in the past war, so Imu being as he is now gotta have something morΔ™ than domination factor.

The good news is we're getting Brook's History flashback, the bad news? It might take another year, especially if we end up with another flashback within a flashback.

Hmm, it sounds like a weird distraction for sanji to fight zaza. With sanji having both blue walk and his fire I don't expect this to be too big a threat though I suppose sanji will object to hurting a woman. I suppose sanji nerfing himself while fighting killingham could prove to be enough to a challenge. Or maybe be what gets sanji to awaken his conqueror haki if his position is that he can't use fire because it would injure zaza. I wonder if nightmares have enough agency to flip their alliance....

I wonder if the setup here is for both sanji and zoro to improve their haki in different ways.

Zoro has more or less a grasp of all types of haki but he needs to refine them. His armor haki seems to be more than adequate but needs intentional use of cladding and doesn't seem to have foresight at all. If zoro is supposed to win by cutting sommer's heart then improving his observation haki could be key even if he uses cladding. I suppose we don't know if sommer's would actually die if the metal heart is destroyed. Sommers reaction could be due to some other nonsense that worries him.

Sanji doesn't even know if he has conqueror haki and has never displayed any advanced use of armor haki beyond hardening IIRC. He seems to be skilled at observation haki.

With ragnir previus life story as real living squirell then become hammer. I think Oda want set up / give a clue a Zoan are previouslly just normal living being. But some how they become DF. Mybe spesific to mhytical creature. N imu talk as if he want Nika n Nighog sied litterly. Not the user but the power itself died n gone forever.

More new characters, more new names, more nonsense... and the so overhyped Imu is beginning to look so weak. He was said to be the ultimate final boss, but now he is even struggling against Loki. Oda has turned the once epic One Piece into a circus.

Imu is supposed to be able to wipe out Loki in one fell swoop—or simply by blinking his eyes. Yet Loki managed to land a hit on Imu and even made him bleed. Since Loki is fighting toe-to-toe with Imu, Oda seems to suggest that he is stronger than any of the top-tier characters in the World Government, let alone the Admirals, Shichibukai, or Yonko. However, Luffy beats the crap out of Loki, which means Luffy has already attained a power level none of the aforementioned characters could ever reach, even though, just a few chapters ago, he was still struggling against a WG Elder cannon fodder and Kizaru.

Nothing. Makes. Sense.

Oda has lost all credibility - and is just making things worse and worse. It is no surprise that in the national Shonen Jump poll, One Piece's popularity has significantly dropped.

People tend to believe what is commonly accepted without questioning or investigating it further, and that includes the idea of Sanji being part of the “Triforce” of the Straw Hat Crew, supposedly comparable to the top three members of other established crews like Shanks’ or Roger’s. However, Sanji is heavily overhyped. The Straw Hat Crew does not actually have a true Top Three, but rather a Top Two consisting of Luffy and Zoro. The power level of those two is in a completely different league and dimension, light-years ahead of Sanji’s. At most, Sanji can be considered “the strongest among the small fries.” Zeus’ full potential and ultimate power have never been completely shown, and we have never seen him truly snap. But if he ever does, Sanji would be turned to ashes within seconds.

I think it may depend on if Haki can be used here to make zaza tangible. The fruit used to create zaza is definitely a paramecia but that basically spawned a "logia". This really hasn't been explored yet I don't think. Haki can make elements tangible when that fruit is the element but can CoA make natural elements tangible? Such as, if I clad myself in CoA, can I push a campfire off the wood? Can I clad my feet in CoA and walk on water?

My thinking is, no I cannot because if a person can use CoA to walk on water then they can just walk on air and neither of these things have been shown. Sanji and CP can skywalk but that is a whole different thing, he isn't "walking" but rather kicking off the air. I don't think Haki can affect natural elements because of the very reason it effects logia users: there is someone there whereas natural fire is soulless. So, that being said zaza is in this gray area. It is an intangible element but was created via a fruit. It is an interesting thought concept.

Calling it now, there’s a connection to Gunkos mom and Cavendish. I wonder if their linage has the ability to be controlled by Imu. Cavendish has two personalities and one is demon like. Zaza looking similar to Imu has me more and more convinced that they have an arsenal of other bodies that they can control and pilot.

Brook flashback at this time? interesting. Weird timing for it but what can you do. Guess it was inevitable after Killingham mentioned Gunko and presumed her dead. Well anyway, we're now gonna see Brook's backstory with Gunko (or rather Shuri) since it looks clear that both Brook and Shuri were once very close and had a strong bond with each other during his youth until the likely Loki-esque incident occurred.

now the actual question is how it unfolded and when we get back to the present, will Brook have the heart to understand and believe whatever Gunko is going to tell him since I assume she's still alive and will want to try to get Brook to hear her out.

Unexpected but a welcome one, was gonna be hard giving the guy a backstory when so much of it is waiting in isolation. He was alive during an interesting period well before the crew existed, I'm excited to see what kinda revelations Oda will foreskin this time.

Looking it up, Brook is 90, which would put this backstory 70 years ago. Whitebeard died at 72, so canonically he would be a toddler if he appeared here as an example. We about to meet some wild people we've never heard of and I love it. Esperia Kingdom is probably based on the Greek name Hesperia, which means "Western Land" or "Land of the Evening".
That makes sense as Brooks home island is in the West Blue.
The name also has connection with the sun setting in the west, maybe the island has some Nika lore.

I like that we're getting more backstory for Brook, but the timing of it is quite weird, especially when we already had a long backstory from Loki / God Valley stuff this arc and also since we're right in the middle of Imu's fight.
