Hold onto your afro, because if these spoilers for Chapter 1185 are accurate, Oda is about to absolutely break our hearts all over again. Just when we thought Brook’s backstory with the Rumbar Pirates and Laboon couldn't get any sadder, we are getting pulled back even further into his past in the Kingdom of Esperia.
Here is my full breakdown, reaction, and analysis of the wild twists in Chapter 1185!

π Chapter Recap: The Tragedy of Esperia
The chapter kicks off with a massive lore drop for our favorite Soul King. We get a flashback montage of Brook’s early days as an apprentice to Candelle, who trained him in both the blade and the fine art of etiquette. We also see Brook’s deep bond with a character named Shuri.
The emotional core of the first half centers on Candelle’s unrequited, yet fiercely loyal, love for Prince Luven. She is perfectly content just being his royal guard, but things take a dark turn when a World Government ship carrying a Celestial Dragon (Tenryubito) arrives in Esperia.
Shortly after this visit, Candelle falls deathly ill. When she miraculously recovers, Prince Luven shocks everyone by announcing their engagement! But the happiness is short-lived. A mysterious, corrosive fog blankets the kingdom for years, destroying the citizens' health and the musical instruments that are the lifeblood of Esperia's economy.
Bankrupt and unable to pay the Celestial Tribute, the World Government demands citizens as slaves. Luven refuses, waging a rebellion that results in the kingdom burning to the ground.
Then comes the cliffhanger: Brook rushes to the palace only to find Shuri stabbing Luven. The final double-page spread reveals a shocking twist both Shuri and Luven have sprouted devil wings and horns, reportedly under the effect of something called "Domi Reversi."
Oh, and the most devastating three words in manga: Break Next Week.
π± My Reaction: Oda Does It Again
My jaw actually dropped at the final page description. We always knew Brook was a royal convoy guard before joining the Rumbar Pirates, but seeing the actual downfall of his kingdom adds incredible weight to his character. Brook hides so much pain behind his "Yohohoho" and skull jokes.
The pacing of this chapter sounds incredible. Going from a wholesome training montage to a horrific kingdom-wide tragedy, capped off with a demonic betrayal, is peak One Piece storytelling. The sheer despair of Brook arriving just in time to see his friend murder his Prince while both are turning into literal demons is going to look incredible when Oda draws it.
π§ Deep-Dive Analysis & Theories
Let’s break down the biggest mysteries and implications from this chapter.
1. The Celestial Dragon's Visit & Candelle's Illness In One Piece, correlation usually equals causation when the World Government is involved. A Tenryubito visits, and suddenly the beautiful Royal Guard falls into a coma-like illness? This smells like foul play.
Theory: The Celestial Dragon likely demanded Candelle as a slave or wife. When Luven or Candelle politely refused, the Tenryubito may have poisoned her as punishment, or the World Government set the stage to ruin the kingdom entirely.
2. The Corrosive Fog: Natural Disaster or Biological Warfare? The fact that the fog specifically ruined musical instruments—the kingdom's main economic export—is way too convenient. This screams of deliberate sabotage. Whether it was an early form of Caesar Clown-esque biological weaponry, an awakened Devil Fruit user sent by the WG, or a curse related to the "Domi Reversi," the World Government intentionally starved Esperia to force them into slavery.
3. What is "Domi Reversi"? This is the biggest bombshell of the leak. Shuri and Luven sprouting devil wings and horns implies a massive supernatural element.
Is it a Devil Fruit awakening? Unlikely for both of them to have it simultaneously unless it’s an area-of-effect power.
Is it a demonic curse/race? We've seen Lunarians (black wings) and characters like Magellan (horns), but a sudden transformation implies a curse or a forbidden technique. "Domi Reversi" sounds like a Latin-inspired term for a "reversal of dominance" or returning to a demonic state.
The Betrayal: Did Shuri stab Luven out of malice, or was it a tragic sacrifice? If "Domi Reversi" is a madness-inducing curse brought on by the fog or the World Government, Shuri might have lost his mind, or Luven might have asked Shuri to kill him before he fully turned into a monster.
Final Thoughts
Chapter 1185 sounds like a masterclass in backstory building. It connects Brook’s musical roots to his homeland's economy, gives us a heart-wrenching reason for his departure to the seas, and introduces a terrifying new mechanic (Domi Reversi) that could have massive implications for the current timeline.
It’s going to be a long two weeks waiting for Chapter 1186 to see how Brook survives this demonic fallout!

It would be the same sort of idea as Imu trying to turn Luffy and Loki at the same time. He probably turned them and told them to kill each other. Maybe just for the funnies.
ReplyDeleteIt doesnt really matter in a sense. The WG is a nonsensical organization with questionable logic, that Imu himself has to tell to stop being arrogant and lazy when its time to move. And with Imu having a thing for blue haired girls, he has 101 different logic patterns that could all be justified if oda used them.
Regading the chapter:
The training sequence is before Humming Brook is a thing. So we're still doing flashback within flashback.
The weird weather is sus. And in the west blue? Weird. If it's the rust fruit on an awakening, then sure, I guess.
Brook is really good at forgetting about shit. But honestly, in a world of devil fruits, you just never know what insanity you're going to see.
Regarding Oda, I hope he's okay. Another break is scary. He might really be having a health challenge right now.
If it's the next One Piece movie causing him stress still, then man, they need to get their act together.
But otherwise, I'm ready for this to be done and over. I'm not sure I needed this flashback to the extent it was done in right now. Maybe the corroding fog is actually relevant to something. But I feel like this is unneccessary, unless Brook goes on a legendary run to save Shuri. And honestly, if Brook doesnt end up having a relationship with Shuri at the end of the series, I will personally feel betrayed.
To some degree, if Brook is getting a childhood flashback, then I think some of the other strawhats need to get them too. So Franky and Jinbe for sure. Not Zoro, because I think I get what Oda's trying to do with Zoro.
Anyway, I come out of this hoping Oda's okay.
Imu can domi reversi anyone, not just person with pact. Also WE know about domi reversi but since that happened waaaay before Elbaf, when Brook was young so he couldn't know what he looks at. He could think that Shuri was some demon in disguise and she did something to her father before she ultimately killed him. That's totally common thing in One Piece world. People don't think "It's just devil fruit power.", they literally think "Oh no, it's a monster!" whenever they see devil fruit user at work. So it's obvious that young Brook didn't know what's going on and just started to connect the dots after witnessing it second time now when he's older. Also it could be trauma, Reuvens death could be soo traumatic for Brook that he just suppressed the memory because it was too painful. Espesially since Shuri killed him and Brook seemed to love her like his own niece.
ReplyDeleteActually I feel like WG dosen't need money THAT much. What they need are basic resource: food, water and ESPESIALLY cheap (or rather free) workers that mean SLAVES. I figured tribute could be just to "keep the economy going" and mayby also for CDs funsies because whatever they need they can actually just take instead of paying. But to keep their shady business from eyes of commoners they have to keep mask of normalcy to have everything under control. I think THAT'S what the tribute is for. Oh and mayby also to keep kingdoms that are part of WG from becoming too strong. Because you know, richer kingdoms are also stronger and since Esperia was doing really well I wouldn't be surprised if WG decided to ruin that kingdom just in case their prosperity ever made them dangerous. Spoilers said Gorosei are also in this chapter so mayby that "mysterious mist" could be something developed by Saturn as some kind of bio weapon that make people sick but just seem like weird fenomenon instead of something man made.
