One Piece Manga 1169 Review

We Need to Talk About That Death Flag in One Piece 1169... Worth the Wait? Why Chapter 1169 Was Essential Setup. After years of wondering about the mysteries surrounding Elbaph and Shanks' past, Oda finally delivers one of the most emotionally devastating chapters in recent memory. Chapter 1169 doesn't just answer questions - it shatters your heart in the process.

The chapter opens with a bombshell revelation from Gaban about Roger's son that immediately connects to Shanks' relationship with Ace in a way that hits differently now. But that's just the appetizer. The real meat of this chapter is the Harald tragedy, and wow, does Oda make you feel every painful moment.

Harald's descent into madness is genuinely terrifying. The way Oda portrays a once-noble king reduced to a mindless monster attacking his own people - including the brutal moment with Jarul - is peak One Piece darkness. This isn't some abstract villain; this is a man betrayed by the World Government, begging his own son to end his suffering. The tragedy writes itself.

10/10 - "I Must Die" lives up to its haunting title

One Piece Manga 1169 Review

What really got me was Loki's position here. All this time we've been speculating about why he's chained up, and now we understand he was trying to SAVE Elbaph, not destroy it. The irony is painful. And Shanks being there, trying desperately to prevent all of this alongside Gaban, adds so much weight to his character. We finally see why he was in Elbaph and his connection to the royal family.

The cliffhanger with Ragnar Hammer attacking Loki in the treasure room is chef's kiss storytelling. Just when Loki thinks he's doing the right thing, another obstacle appears. Classic Oda.

The Rocks Pirates colorspread in black suits is absolute fire too. These little touches show why One Piece remains the GOAT after 1100+ chapters.

My only "complaint" is that we have to wait TWO WEEKS because of the break. After a chapter this intense, the wait is going to be brutal.

This is One Piece at its finest - mythology, tragedy, mystery, and emotional depth all woven together. Chapter 1169 is an instant classic.

Enter Monkey D. Luffy, a 17-year-old boy that defies your standard definition of a pirate. Rather than the popular persona of a wicked, hardened, toothless pirate who ransacks villages for fun, Luffy’s reason for being a pirate is one of pure wonder; the thought of an exciting adventure and meeting new and intriguing people, along with finding One Piece, are his reasons of becoming a pirate. Following in the footsteps of his childhood hero, Luffy and his crew travel across the Grand Line, experiencing crazy adventures, unveiling dark mysteries and battling strong enemies, all in order to reach One Piece.

I do wonder at this point. I don’t believe we will see a domi reverse zoro and sanji. At this point I believe IMU can only do so given permission with that circle he made Harald draw. Davy D is probably the reason god valley happened with his clan getting domi reversed several centuries later.

I’m assuming Loki may get reversed in the current timeline or not. 🤷‍♂️ he may not have been reversed the first time cause IMU thought to gain his trust later on with the holy knights.

Also why hasn’t IMU use admirals ? What if aokiji knows about some of these events and that’s why he left the marines after losing to akainu? Maybe he can’t do what garp does and turn a blind eye. He could have been trying to become fleet admiral for this reason I believe he witnessed something similar to garp.

Harald wanted Loki to tell the country what happened, Shanks and Gaban both saw Harald as a monster… and yet Loki ended up imprisoned and know one knows what truly happened. What are we missing? What happened in Harald’s final moments? So how come everyone considers Loki to be a bad guy when besides Jarul who is quite literally brain damaged, Shanks and Gabban knew what happened and are on really good terms with Elbaf? I hope it's not "we have to preserve the memory of Harald and hide that he got fooled by World government like a most naive mf, so I, Loki, will take the blame for what happened" type thing.

So this is why loki's hammer was able to shake the whole of elbaf... I wondered why exactly xebec thought the legendary devil fruit had to be used by a giant but I think the situation is that xebec had incomplete information. It's not that the fruit has to be eaten by a giant, the issue is the giant being so massive it could only be wielded by an ancient giant. Ragnar seems like wordplay on ragnarok but functionally it seems almost like mjolnir. Though I have no idea of what fruit it has. A thundergod fruit perhaps?

So if I am reading this right the magic circle imu drew in elbaf is what allowed imu the range to control him.

Oda's trying to make his retcon fit into the story. And just like Whitebeard's not showing up at Wano doesn't make any sense I still commend the fact that he tries to acknowledge it, but it never made any sense that Rogers entrusted Ace and Rouge to Garp and not Rayleigh, Gaban or Whitebeard.

In Rayleigh and Gaban's defense though, I just don't think they ever knew that Ace, specifically, was Rogers son until it was too late. Shanks has to somehow understand that Rogers son is around in order to travel to East Blue with the Gomu no Mi, is my guess, and this is Oda's way of introducing him to this fact.

So, basically what seems to have happened is Shanks was on a mission from the Gorosei, he left them and went missing, they ended up making Harald a God Knight (something Shanks wouldn't know when it was going to happen). Dude goes to Elbaph, unfortunately Harald was already made a Knight, so this silly idea that because he's in a bath tub, it's his fault is just absurd.... Harald was already made a God Knight before Shanks even got to Elbaph. Furthermore, he wouldn't even be able to tell Harald this while in Mariejoa.

Jarul probably had amnesia thinking the sword in his head was from Loki when it was actually from Harald.

Loki must also have consumed the fruit... the giants can't mistaken someone for being a legendary fruit user for 14 years, that would make no sense at all.

Harald only told Loki, and Jarul about the WG based on this short summary, as this is not a full summary, I'd guess he told them he'd been taken over by Imu or maybe he just told them in a rush to kill him because he couldn't control himself.
Gaban and Shanks arrived after this, so they possibly wouldn't know he was possessed. Seems everyone has a piece of the puzzle that neither can piece together without all discussing, and this is not exactly the time to discuss.

After Harald's death, Loki went sailing for 8 years looking to challenge the Celestial Dragons. Shanks defeated him 6 years ago.

Loki now views Shanks as a coward because Shanks probably defeated him because he doesn't believe he's ready to take on the Celestial Dragons, it's suicide. So, Shanks was also doing him a favour. He probably also returned him back to Elbaph most likely because he's anticipating that Loki's strength will be needed.
And the mission Shanks probably was given may have involved Elbaph, and Shanks is actually trying to make sure that Loki is alive, and to ensure that if Elbaph gets attacked, Loki would be present to help fight them off.

Furthermore, Loki wouldn't have known Shanks at the time, the dude just arrived at Elbaph 14 years ago, the day his father was killed, so he would have no reason toe explain anything to Shanks or view him as a trustworthy ally at the very least. And he was probably too angry to have any discussions with Shanks or Gaban to make sense of what was happening.

As he's in a vulnerable position now and somewhat calm, Gaban and Loki's events of the story can piece together pieces of the jigsaw either is unaware of - Loki possibly knows his father was taken over, and Gaban has sensed this weird Haki and both can consolidate the story to make sense of it would be my guess, but need to see what the full summary says.

If I had to guess, Ragnir only obeys anyone who eats this legendary fruit which is why no one else can pick it up maybe.

Seems like a decent chapter.
